What are compression bandages?

Pressure bandages put pressure on a specific part of the body. They are also called bandages. As the name suggests, bandaging is a special method of bandaging that is applied to people who suffer from fluid build-up, swelling or an injury. By applying an elastic pressure bandage, pressure is created on the body part, so that the moisture is pushed out of the tissue. It is therefore the intention that the pressure bandage in this way reduces the accumulation of fluid. Adhesive bandages are often used as a compression bandage for the application of a compression bandage and for support after an injury. In addition, bandages are also suitable as a dressing after using gauze on a wound. It is very important to apply the compression bandage correctly. This is because the pressure is applied in the right place, which is a determining factor for the effectiveness.

How does a pressure bandage work?

A compression bandage is pulled tightly around the affected area of the body. The pressure exerted in this way by the bandage forces the blood out of the vessels, as it were. The blood then ends up in the underlying blood vessels, where it is automatically absorbed into the blood circulation and eventually returns to the heart. This reduces moisture accumulation. The result of this is that fluid accumulations decrease so that the body can recover faster after, for example, an injury.
